Mystery Lake is 1st Region available for play in Survival Mode and one of the primary starting regions in The Long Dark. The region is named after Mystery Lake, a lake serving as the reservoir for the Carter Hydro Dam. A railway crosses the region and is mainly used in the summers supporting the local timber operation and lakeside recreation.

A vast and relatively open rural region surrounded by mountains. It contains farms, barns, scattered shelters, and large areas of wilderness, but its unpredictable weather and frequent blizzards make exploration dangerous.

A small coastal region dominated by cliffs, beaches, and an abandoned whaling settlement. Its main attraction is the forge located inside the old whaling ship, making it an important crafting location.

A mountainous region centered around the massive Timberwolf Mountain. It contains numerous climbing routes, caves, and hidden supplies, with the summit providing some of the most valuable loot in the game.

A vast frozen marsh crossed by an abandoned railway. Weak ice, fog, harsh weather, and numerous wolves make traveling dangerous, but the region contains an important forge and valuable crafting resources.

A small, narrow region centered around an old railway and maintenance yard. Despite its size, it contains several useful buildings, a forge, abundant wildlife, and a large hunting lodge.

A mountainous region containing the abandoned town of Milton. The many houses provide excellent access to food, clothing, and shelter, although wolves are common outside the town.

A remote and largely untouched wilderness with no conventional buildings. Its steep terrain, waterfalls, caves, climbing routes, and abundant wildlife make it challenging to navigate but highly rewarding for experienced survivors.

A frozen coastal region featuring a long highway, several islands, and an abandoned settlement. It provides plenty of buildings and resources, but wolves are a constant threat throughout the area.

A cold coastal region known for its dangerous Timberwolves and industrial facilities. It contains a cannery, fishing locations, and one of the game's ammunition workbenches, making it particularly valuable for armed survivors.

A deep canyon surrounded by steep cliffs and high plateaus. The region is difficult to navigate and offers little shelter, but it contains valuable resources, challenging climbing routes, and access to an important gold mine.

A rugged mountainous region dominated by the abandoned Blackrock Prison. Timberwolves are common throughout the area, while numerous industrial buildings, vehicles, and other structures provide useful supplies.

A remote region centered around a large abandoned airfield. The area features a runway, crashed aircraft, hangars, and scattered structures, but its open terrain and harsh weather make traveling across it dangerous.

A mountainous transition region connecting the main areas of the Far Territory. It consists primarily of steep terrain, narrow mountain paths, and routes leading toward the surrounding regions.

A high-altitude mountain region characterized by steep cliffs, deep valleys, and severe weather. The difficult terrain and limited shelter make it one of the more challenging areas to explore.

A dangerous industrial region affected by toxic contamination. Survivors must carefully manage their exposure while navigating abandoned industrial structures and searching for valuable resources.

A narrow valley surrounded by steep cliffs, waterfalls, and forests. An old railway runs through the region, connecting Mystery Lake with Coastal Highway and Bleak Inlet.

A narrow transition region connecting Mystery Lake and Pleasant Valley. The area follows a frozen river surrounded by steep cliffs, forests, and waterfalls. Several caves and abandoned structures provide limited shelter, while thin ice, wolves, and harsh weather can make crossing the region dangerous.

A rugged mountain passage connecting Pleasant Valley with Keeper's Pass North. The region consists of steep terrain, narrow paths, and cave systems leading through the mountains.

A long and isolated railway running through the mountains between Broken Railroad and Transfer Pass. The region follows abandoned tracks through forests, tunnels, cliffs, and several remote locations.
